The Upper Scioto Valley Board and Administration will take these results into account when creating our return to school plan.
Some of the comments or concerns for the year will be answered starting on page 4. I did not change them from the original submission. Only comments or concerns that stated none or nothing was removed. Many of the answers are repeated.

As we don’t have sitters and both work first shift it is not possible for us to do anything other the normal schooling and transportation and will not allow my child to be forced into mask wearing
Normal schooling is in my opinion the best option for any student and as long as this is allowed, this will be the best option offered. Due to Governor Dewine’s order masks are now required for all students above 10 years of age.
Trying to get children to wear masks is colonizing germs even more. I really dont want my kid wearing a mask all day to make her immune system weaker to where this virus can seriously hurt her. Just my opinion

Start with no required masks. Lots of cleaning. Hire extra janitors for daytime.
There will be much more cleaning protocols put into place. We are looking at all options to ensure that these cleaning protocols can be implemented including more custodial staff. Due to Governor Dewine’s order masks are now required for all students above 10 years of age.

Yes, being a nurse working in the front line, I’m concerned especially for elementary students and their parents. I believe we go full time at the school or not at all. We are risking exposure together or not at all. I am essential and have not caught the corona virus yet. However it is out there and still spreading, if I am off work it will hurt my family in a negative way financially as it would other families. In elementary it will be harder to imply rules where kids don’t touch their face, play on same equipment at recess, or not hug their friends. I think older grades will do well with this, as long as they know the dangers of this disease since it is more dangerous to their grandparents with the lower immune systems and others. It is going to be harder than ever being a full time working parent with my spouse also working full time to try and teach my young boy, but if we are all in this together I’m willing to do what it takes, I appreciate all the support teachers gave, during this rough time. I cannot thank them enough for being there for multiple parents, making zoom meetings and phone calls. Thank you for everything you do USV!
Staggered seating on the busses only. This will create more trips but the children won't be in direct contact with each other. The school day should run as normal as can be.
We are looking at many options for transportation. Including limited seating on buses and seating charts for students to be as socially distanced as possible.
I know You guys will make the best decision for my kids and their safety. God Bless You ??
Yes if these kids don't return to school I hope you have teachers willing to watch and teach my kids at there homes because I can't :), oh and I would pay a teacher to teach them as long as I don't have to I'm a nurse not teacher

Keep doing what was done last year to help keep the children learning but not taking a chance of bringing it back home to younger siblings & elderly loved ones.

Get back to normal for the kids.
I feel the only way to keep the children and parents safe and the administration and teachers safe is requiring masks and social distancing with a blended school week or total online schooling.

I would like to know as soon as possible so I can make arrangements that would be necessary in the event it would be different than the standard school day
As soon as a definite plan is in place it will be shared with our community.
If at-home learning becomes mandated again, I am concerned about the lack of rigor in regards to schoolwork sent home. I still want my children to be challenged so they can teach their full potential. I understand that at-home learning is a challenge and for many uncharted territory, but we still need to rise to the challenges to ensure our children are receiving instruction and work that is grade-level appropriate and challenging. I don’t want my kids to just survive this time but to thrive.
If we are required to go 100% at home learning again, it will be different than last year. It is the goal of Upper Scioto Valley to see our kids thrive as well.
Last spring I noticed the work load decreased each week. The teacher was amazing at providing extra learning opportunities for my daughter. I hope we look for ways to continue to challenge and grow students and not be satisfied with review work.

Normally my kids would ride the bus, I'm still trying to figure out how to take and pick them up daily if you have school inside, but how would the kids social distance at the bus stop?
This is a very good question. We will discuss with the transportation department.
For social distancing at school, I heard of a school in Ohio that is having the kids stay in the classroom and the teachers are the ones that come in and out to teach the different subjects. Is this something you'd be willing to think about at USV?
This has been discussed as an option. However, the logistics are very challenging with needed supplies and equipment needed by different teachers for different subjects.
The online learning platform should be set up like a normal school day to be conducive to successful learning. It should start at a normal set time where all of the students are logged into a virtual classroom video setting and can see the teacher and other students. The teacher will teach the lesson for the period while the students will have the opportunity to ask questions live. The teacher can then allocate the remainder of the time for homework. I think that there should be a grace period in the beginning ( first 9 weeks) for attendance and the submission of assignments until most of the bugs are worked out and everyone gets familiarized with such procedures. Some parents may have to change their work schedule if possible to accommodate younger students. There should be some option for parents that have limited options when it comes to their work schedule. I can only think of one idea to accommodate these parents. Have dedicated spaced locations (cubicles) set up in the school that have computer access with a teacher present.
As a single parent with only access to my phone for internet to use i dont see my child doing well with online learning

I know that USV district is doing the best they can to find the safest and most realistic option possible for the kids. For that I’m thankful, thank you.
My concern is physical activities and students who need extra help. Some parents cannot stay home with their students. Some people are babysitting and have no idea what assignments are due. Maybe set an agenda for each day on one piece of paper in an organized manner the tasks that need to be done for the day. For instance Monday English 1 assignment of number 365, Intergrated math assignment of number 365, science read pgs 365-375 complete packet pgs 171-175, reading lesson chapter 12 and complete questions from chapter 12.

If school online do u supply internet for those who can't afford services..??
As of today this is not an option. However, assignments can be loaded onto the chromebook while at school and worked on offline. These assignments would be updated to our system once the chromebook logged back into the USV network.
With both parents working full time it will be hard to keep up with the online learning if required. It was hard enough to keep up with homework for the five kids during the COVID crisis and that was with one parent being off work.

Just let our kids go back to school! We work full time jobs, it is hard being a teacher too!
Also, if my children don't go back to school then I think we don't have to pay school taxes during that time when I have to be their teacher!!

Yes, I have a toddler who already has a compromised immune system due to allergies and asthma, I can't see sending her sister to school being around people we don't know how their health is and risk her bringing something home

If my child is required to where a mask and only goes limited days I will pull them out and enroll them into homeschooling

Send them all back and let’s get back to normalcy
We are waiting to see what the school decides and from there, we will make our decision on whether or not to send our child.
I feel social distancing is a must for my child to attend and I feel comfortable about it. I also would like to see masks worn for the protection of everyone especially if the virus is high .kids dont understand and touch and share everything amongst them. I have been protecting my child since this has started and would like to know they are safe at school.

I think masks should be mandatory for the protection of everyone. The masks cant be a "choice" because then only a select would wear one. I need to know my children will be safe. Germs spread easily with confined children. Look what happened last year with the flu spread. Please consider making the mask mandatory and social distancing a must.

Get back to normal
Our household has high risk family members (Type 1 Diabetic, CHF & kidney disease.) We require masks be worn when we go out in public, not only for my child's safety but for the safety of other family members that are at high risk. Since a person can be asymptomatic and not know they are carrying Covid19, our family has to be extra cautious.
I think the whole situation is still very fluid and I would rather be safe than sorry. That is my opinion only. I think you are doing the best you can for your students in this unsure situation. We as parents are trying to do the same. That’s all we can all do.
What about the students that don’t have access to online learning at home? Why can’t assignments be given out like last year? Thank you
The students/families that choose home based instruction will be on a different program than what the students in school are taking. These programs follow the same standards, but will not have the same support as students in school.
All the questions center around online learning. The school is in no way ready to offer this kind of education.
We have two programs to support the students on home based instruction. Grades 6-12 will be using Plato and grades K-5 will be using the Edmentum Calvert Learning platform.
If not in school they learn nothing at all! I'm not able to teach my child
I would love for everyone to be safe and healthy. However, with this current pandemic it is very hard to insure that.
I have a child with asthma so how will this affect her?
Children that have documented medical issues can choose the home based instruction or may be exempted from wearing a mask.
I don’t understand how school closed early when the virus first came about. Now that the virus is worse, we are planning on opening schools. I just don’t understand, now that we have more cases, we think it’s okay to open schools back up.
Teachers and staff there are wonderful. I am not fearful at all of this pandemic and trust you will make the best decisions. My child won't wear a mask to attend tho.

I'm only looking out for my child. We have not had it yet amd I dont want him to bring it home. Also I have to be very careful who I am around because of my line of work. I work in a nursing home and cant chance taking into work as well, or being taken off of work due to exposure.
Kids and adults NEED socialization. I think kids have been stressed out and are ready for some sort of normal. They miss their teachers and their friends.

I will not make my child wear a mask during school or during sporting events. I just won't let her attend school or extra curricular activities.

If USV does not return to school 5 days per week, I will consider moving my child to a school who will offer in class instruction 5 days per week.

Maybe take temperatures beginning of the day and lunch time if running a fever se d kid home
Taking temperatures upon arrival is one of the protocols that USV will be implementing.
Will Chromebooks be sent home for virtual learning if that is part of the educational plan?
If we must go to a blended plan (½ students on different days) or totally remote we will have Chromebooks available for grades 1-12.
My children really struggled thought online learning last year I tried to help them the best I could but I'm not a teacher or have a teaching degree so some adjustments and or changes need to be made to the online learning system

Our concerns is the out break of the virius, our safety of our kids cause we do not want them to get it.
Let those who want to send their kids to school do so. And those that don't feel comfortable, keep them home.

This would be the expectation of USV.
For us parents to feel safe we feel social distancing and wearing mask should be required at least until the viruses numbers go low.

If the school requires students to wear masks at school, I will pull my daughter from the school and either home school or enroll her in another school where masks are not required. Masks make it harder to speak and be understood when talking, thus making it more difficult to teach and learn. Masks also make it more difficult to recognize a person and really intensifies the fear created for younger children in regards to stranger danger.

We both work full time with five kids and it has proven impossible to be able to do online or even partial online with all the kids. They will not receive any where the quality of education at home as they would at school with licensed professionals.

If the kids are REQUIRED to wear masks, what will be done for the ones with asthma and already have problems breathing?

I think masks would be irritating, but should be required for all individuals. That's the only way to make it fair and the safest for everyone since social distancing will be difficult to properly enforce.
As most parents, I am concerned about the quality of learning if the kids do not go back to school full time this year. My son needs that face to face interaction with his teachers. He does not do well in a self taught environment.
