Upper Scioto Valley School District News Article

Welcome Back

We just completed the first day of school and it was great to see all of the students back for the 2014/2015 school year.  We have several new teachers this year and are excited to have them come on board and work alongside us in educating the children of Upper Scioto Valley.

The first two are transfers to new positions.  Mrs. Michelle Underwood will be taking the role of Guidance Counselor for the district.  She is very excited about this opportunity and looks forward to helping the students.  The other transfer is Mr. Aaron Thompson.  He will be taking over the Vocational Agriculture classes and FFA program through Ohio Hi-Point.  This position has had a high turnover the last few years at Upper Scioto Valley as well as across the state.  A long term commitment is needed with the amount of time an FFA Advisor spends with the students and the bonds that are made between a four year member and the FFA Advisor and we believe Mr. Thompson has that commitment.

 New teachers include:

High School English                           Miss Taylor Bahm

Middle School Mathematics               Mrs. Laura Stanley

Middle School Social Studies             Mr. Ben Kretz

K-12 Physical Education                    Ms. Juli Dearing

K-4 Intervention Specialist                 Mrs. Tonya Frazier

K-3 Reading Specialist                       Mrs. Julie Brunke

When you see these new members of our community, please welcome and encourage them as the make the transition to teacher at Upper Scioto Valley.

There have been many questions about starting school so early in August.  The reason is to get as many educational days in before the state testing starts on February 16 and ends May 15.  The reward for starting school early will be May 19, 2015, the last day of school
